The cause of acne is from the sebaceous glands over secreting sebum at the hair follicles on the skin. Sebum is normal oil excreted by the pores to keep the skin lubricated. It is when too much sebum is produced that the pores get clogged and result in a breakout of pimples.
Hard plugs are formed that block the pores. The plugs rupture under the skin and cause a bacterial infection. The most common cause of acne is hormonal imbalances.
