Acne can be quite a common problem for pregnant mothers especially during the first few months where excessive hormonal changes are the cause. This can even happen to those who have had beautiful skin their whole life – there really doesnt seem to be any pattern.
As the pregnancy progresses you can expect the acne to wear off and in some instances, if you suffered with acne prior to getting pregnant, you may find the excess estrogen balances your hormones to the point where your skin is better than ever before.
Many mothers face the issue of what they can and cant take if they are getting acne irritation whilst pregnant. There are some treatments out there that are completely off-limits and you should always consult your doctor before taking any new medication whilst pregnant. As a rough guide, it is generally acknowledged that Accutante (also known as Isotetrinoin) is a complete no go area as is all oral medication such as Tetracycline as there maybe harmful effects for the fetus. Some doctors even advise against taking these remedies when youre trying to get pregnant.
Your only real answer is topical application with creams such as Benzoyl Peroxide (something like Quinoderm) or Erythromycin. These are completely safe to use whilst pregnant. Of course herbal treatments may also be acceptable however you must consult your doctor before beginning such treatment as herbal is most certainly not a synonym for safe!
There are other safe treatments out there that are out of scope of this article that you can consider for safely combating the effects of acne whilst pregnant but you shouldnt take advice from anyone other than a qualified physician.
